Hannah-Beth Jackson

“We owe every individual quality and accessible healthcare and the right to live a life of basic dignity, free of poverty or discrimination.”
21st Century Democrats is proud to endorse Hannah-Beth Jackson, a respected legislator and tireless advocate for progressive values. Running for the California State Senate of District 19, Hannah-Beth strongly believes that every American should have the opportunity to achieve the American dream. In California, her leadership roles illustrate that she truly wants to improve the lives of Americans today.

At the age of 8, Hannah-Beth learned a difficult life lesson when she was denied the opportunity to tryout for the local Little League Baseball team. She had the skills, desire and commitment to play, but the rules didn’t allow girls to play. Her appeals went unheard, and she was determined that her life’s mission would be to fight the unjustifiable inequities that exist in our world.

As successful attorney and prosecutor, Hannah-Beth worked tirelessly for fairness in the judicial system. She went on to serve in the California State Assembly for six years where she was Chair of the Committee on Natural Resources, Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Coastal Protection, and Co-Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Title IX. Also showcasing her unwavering dedication to progressive values, Hannah-Beth was Chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus as well as the Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee. Her legislative record and determination to stand up for critical issues has brought her accolades from educators, consumer advocates and environmental organizations.

As a distinguished leader in California, Hannah-Beth is passionate about environmental issues and hopes to make the Golden State the home of the Green Economy. If elected, she will support partnerships between California’s research infrastructure such as schools and universities and its green industry, so that California can develop and implement technology that will help protect the environment and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

As an Assembly member she brought her experience as a prosecutor to the legislature, writing and passing bills to support crime victims, to protect the victims of stalking during periods the stalker may not be in custody, to increase school safety from domestic violence, to increase school safety from vehicular dangers, to increase penalties for vehicular manslaughter, and to allow for civil remedies for violence against women. She has garnered the endorsements of public safety leaders and victims’ rights advocates.

Also, Hannah-Beth has written and passed legislation to keep prescription drug prices as low as possible, to ensure that our caregivers are well-trained and to protect the public against serious health hazards in the environment. She will continue to advocate for citizens’ access to quality and affordable health care. Before the first bomb was dropped, Hannah-Beth has been a strong opponent of the War in Iraq and will continue to be a progressive voice calling for an immediate change of policy.

Through her experience in California, Hannah-Beth has demonstrated her core values, which illustrate her firm belief that society must provide a social-economic and political framework in which people can progress. She is an exceptional candidate who works each day to improve the environment, public education, safety, access to health care, and ultimately the lives of every American. 21st Century Democrats believes that with Hannah-Beth’s strong leadership experience and her progressive vision will make America a better place to live, work and play.
