Linda McCulloch

“I have always believed that I can make a difference. More importantly, I have always believed that everyone can make a difference. As Montana’s Secretary of State I will be devoted to informing voters of all ages and all political parties that they can make a difference – that one vote does count.”

As the next Secretary of State, Linda McCulloch will ensure that the Montana’s elections are transparent, honest, fair, and efficient. She has a lifetime commitment to public service and is dedicated to her two professional passions: “the education of Montana’s children and fair and honest elections.”

As a school teacher and librarian, Linda McCulloch has decades of experience helping young people fulfill their dreams and live up to their potential. After finishing her associate degree, Linda McCulloch became a school librarian at the St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, Montana. While working full-time, McCulloch completed her college degree and moved from the library to the classroom.

After over 20 years as a teacher, McCulloch was elected to the State Legislature in 1994. Since entering politics Linda has never forgotten her roots and the basic values of fairness, kindness, and hard work that drove her to inspire so many young people. McCulloch spent three terms in the State Legislature where she served as the house minority caucus leader in 1999.

In 2001, McCulloch was elected State Superintendent of Public Instruction. In this role, she oversaw all of the state’s 825 public schools serving over 144,000 students and managed a $1.5 billion biennium budget, half of Montana’s total budget. During her two terms in office, Montana passed full-time kindergarten for all students and implementing the Montana Read! program to combat illiteracy. In addition, she helped obtain almost $80 million dollars in federal grants for school support services and was a strong advocate for rural education.

As Secretary of State, McCulloch will increase voter participation among young people in Montana by implementing a youth votes program targeted at high schools and colleges students. Hoping to foster a greater sense of civic duty, she wants to send a Civics Bag home with elementary-aged children to discuss our democratic process with their parents. McCulloch will utilize citizen council to develop more effective ways of running the Secretary of State’s office and she will hire more election judges to make sure Montana’s elections are fair and efficient. Finally, McCulloch will continue her eight years of work on the State Land Board to manage “5.2 million acres of state lands in a manner that generates ongoing revenue for the benefit of current students and generations to come.”

Superintendent Linda McCulloch has an impressive track record as a public servant for the people of Montana as a teacher, state legislator and Superintendent of Public Instruction. 21st Century Democrats is confident that she will continue to work hard for all Montanans and produce exemplary results as the next Secretary of State.
