Linda Stender

“The Bush Administration has failed our nation’s middle class, and it’s time we take our country back. Back to a nation that stands up for working families and creates policies that offer the promise of a better tomorrow for every American.”

New Jersey Assemblywoman Linda Stender’s life is a classic example of how hard work and perseverance can open doors to the American Dream. Her father bravely served in World War II and utilized the GI Bill to build a middle class life for his family once he returned home. Linda Stender and her husband raised their three children in the same neighborhood she grew up and live there to this day. She is proud of her New Jersey roots and wants to ensure that all New Jersey families of the 7th Congressional District have the same opportunities her parents provided for her.

Stender has translated her desire to help New Jersey’s middle class families into concrete legislative accomplishments during her four terms in the New Jersey State Assembly. Writing and passing New Jersey’s historic Global Warming Response Act (GWRA) is one of her most impressive accomplishments. The GWRA was the first law in our nation that set a time table and hard quota for reducing global warming in any state. Specifically the act mandates New Jersey reduce its carbon emissions by 20% in 2020 and 50% in 2050.

Assemblywoman Stender knows that a high quality education is the key to a lifetime of productive employment. She fought for fair school funding in New Jersey, which has helped reduce the achievement gap in the Garden State. She has also worked to ensure that all of New Jersey’s residents have affordable health choices and Assemblywoman Stender has been a strong advocate for investing in stem cell research and providing health care to underprivileged children.

Once in Congress, Linda Stender will demand a time table to bring our troops home from Iraq and use the money being spent overseas to help jumpstart our failing economy. She supports policies to make our tax system fairer and create a universal healthcare system to lift the burden of skyrocketing health care costs of middle class families. Bringing her New Jersey success on climate change to Congress will improve our environment, national security, and economy throughout the rest of the 21st century.

21st Century is proud to endorse Linda Stender for US Congress. Her progressive record in the New Jersey State Assembly and her vision for the future of our country maker her the ideal choice to represent New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District.
