Nicholas Leibham

“My highest priority is to restore confidence in our Democracy and make Americans proud of their government again.”
Nick Leibham is running for U.S. Congress to stand up for those who are not being represented in our democracy. He understands that our system is fundamentally flawed and that we must come together to change politics as usual in Washington. He hopes to move our country toward “an era of post-partisanship and return to civil engagement.”

Leibham is convinced that we must change the way money influences delete politics and government. He firmly believes that we should explore a publicly financed campaign system. Leibham is also disturbed by the undue influence large corporations have over public policy. “If we as a society wish to embrace a real and sustainable agenda concerning energy policy and the environment, we must say to Exxon-Mobil, B.P. and the rest of the fossil fuel industry that they do not get to distort the process with outside campaign contributions.” Leibham is a strong supporter of the first amendment and recognizes corporations’ right to promote their interests, but he asserts that there is “a fundamental difference between protected advocacy and influence by check.”

Leibham also believes it is a moral disgrace that our veterans have not been taken care of by the government. He will make sure we treat our veterans with honor and provide them with the health care and other critical benefits they deserve.

Originally from Oregon, Leibham attended Chaminade University in Hawaii and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science and History. After graduation Nick went to the classroom and taught 11th and 12th grade history and American government. He then traveled to Capitol Hill where he worked for Congressman Gary Ackerman (NY-5) on issues related to foreign affairs, economics, taxation and trade policy. Leibham returned to the west coast in 2001 where he earned a Law Degree and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of San Diego. He began his legal career in the US Attorney’s Office, working in the major frauds and economic crimes section, before being hired as a Criminal Prosecutor for the City Attorney of San Diego. In July of 2006 Leibham left the City Attorney’s Office to run his own civil law practice.

As a former prosecutor, Leibham prides himself on always striving to be objective, impartial and fair. He believes that one must approach every problem, issue and person with an open mind. Leibham will take a pragmatic approach to problem solving by seeking as much information as possible and then engaging in reasoned and sober discourse to come to the most appropriate resolution.

Nick Leibham is a man with strong values and is committed to public service. He has spent his professional career working for the common good and 21st Century Democrats is excited to help him continue serving his community as the next Congressman from California’s 50th district.
