“I’m running to return responsibility and integrity to government. From health care to housing costs, Florida’s families are struggling to get by, and they need an honest voice speaking for them in Washington.”
Honesty, inclusion, and hard work are the values that guide Christine Jennings’s life. They are the same values that helped her mother, who ran a beauty shop out of their home, and her father, a WWII veteran, steel mill worker and minister, , raise their daughter to become the founder, president and CEO of a bank. Watching Americans lose their homes, good jobs, and health coverage troubles her deeply. Jennings is extremely passionate about restoring the American Dream and ensuring that America’s families do not go without basic necessities.
During her 40-year banking career, Jennings helped families fulfill their dreams by providing loans so they could send their children to college, buy their first home or start a small business. Unlike too many cutthroat, me-first business people today, Jennings put her clients first, earning strong profits for shareholders as President and CEO of Sarasota Bank while simultaneously upholding the interests of her community. Reinforcing her dedication to the Sarasota community is Jennings’s strong record of leadership in local community groups. She is past president of five community organizations – the Mental Health Association of Sarasota County, the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Board of Trustees, the Sarasota Film Festival, the Downtown Association of Sarasota and the Sarasota Ballet – and served on the board of many others.
Once in Congress, Jennings will pursue several progressive policies to improve equality of opportunity in her district and strengthen our economy. Building a coalition of educated and dedicated Floridians, who can be bedrocks of their communities for generations, is at the top of Jennings’s agenda. She supports expanding scholarship and grant opportunities for working families and providing loan forgiveness to college graduates who pursue public service. Christine Jennings recognizes that seriously investing in alternative energy can both help protect our environment and produce well paying green collar jobs to strengthen our economy. She is an advocate of smartly and safely ending the war in Iraq, and providing all Americans with access to good, affordable health care.
21st Century Democrats is proud to endorse Christine Jennings. She has been a pillar of the Sarasota community, and has the vision to help put America back on the right track. Her record of ethical community leadership speaks for itself. As a voice for progressive change in Congress, Jennings will be a major asset to the people of Florida’s 13th Congressional District and beyond.
