“I value the notion that the answers to America’s dilemmas are not in Washington but out here in the midst of our hard working people in Ohio and together, with our shared values, we can achieve anything we put our hearts and minds to.”
Ohio State Senator John Boccieri believes that to whom much is given, much is expected. Born into a family who has been working toward the American dream for three generations, Senator Boccieri knows the value of hard work and has dedicated his life to public service. Whether he is serving his country in the Air Force or representing his district in the Ohio Legislature, Senator Boccieri wants to make the lesson taught to him by his grandparents – “through hard work and perseverance anything is possible” – a reality for all Americans.
Senator Boccieri has seen the devastating impact that the Bush Administration’s policies have had on Northeast Ohio in the past eight years. He has witnessed firsthand how unfair trade agreements can ship jobs overseas and can destroy local economies. To help ease the burden on average Ohioans, Senator Boccieri fought to lower property taxes for working families and supported Ohio’s veterans and military families by creating the “Military Injury Relief Fund.”
Through his time in the State Legislature, Senator Boccieri has shown that he is not afraid to go against the grain to get things done. He has consistently fought for the progressive values that he believes in, even when it wasn’t the popular thing to do. When the Republican-controlled Ohio House called for background checks for state-licensed professionals, Boccieri caused a stir by introducing an amendment mandating background checks for state legislators, as well.
As the next Congressman from Ohio’s 16th District, John Boccieri will work to ensure that Americans get the change in leadership that they deserve. He will fight to turn around the economy, help middle class families get ahead, and bring U.S. troops home from Iraq safely, honorably and soon. Senator Boccieri is committed to limiting the influence of corporate cash in politics and bringing the power back to the people, not just an elite few. 21st Century Democrats is excited to work with John Boccieri and we look forward to his election in November.
