“My vision for the 52nd Congressional District and for America as a whole is one of Security. This is not the traditional sense of the word. My vision of security includes Energy Security, Economic Security, Educational Security, and National Security. As a National Security Expert, I have come to appreciate the interconnectedness of each of these areas and how vital it is to the success of our country to approach them holistically.”
Commander Mike Lumpkin knows firsthand the cost of our security. Courageously serving our country for 21 years as a Navy SEAL, Lumpkin has received over 40 commendations and awards. He was involved in military action in multiple theaters, including Iraq and Afghanistan. Lumpkin’s years of outstanding national service had him on the fast track to becoming an Admiral. Despite being close to this honor, Mike left the Navy because he saw the country he fought so hard for heading in the wrong direction. Watching America make a turn for the worst over the last 8 years motivated Lumpkin to retire from the Navy and seek to represent California’s 52nd Congressional District.
Lumpkin isn’t a pro-war hawk. He knows that security, true security, comes from have a universal approach toward our economic, educational, energy and national security. Lumpkin refuses to accept that America has become a country that is permanently losing jobs that pay a living wage, unable to develop sustainable alternative energies, and continually failing education system which is hurting America’s future.
As a Navy SEAL, Captain Lumpkin completed nine tours of duties in various regions throughout the world. Earning a Masters’ Degree in National Security studies has helped bolster his already strong experience in this area. While serving as Congressional Liaison in the United States Special Operations Command Office of Legislative Affairs, Lumpkin ensured that 52,000 Special Operations troops received proper body armor.
Once in Congress, Mike plans on ending the disastrous Iraq War because of its tremendous human and financial costs. Starting in California’s 52nd, Captain Lumpkin wants to use San Diego’s own abundance of solar and wind energy to decrease our dependence on foreign oil and ensure our environment is safe. Lumpkin will ensure our economy has decent jobs, workers have collective bargaining rights, and consumers are protected. Finally, Lumpkin plans on investing in a better public education system to ensure all our children receive a quality education.
Captain Mike Lumpkin has spent his adult life fighting to protect our nation’s liberties. His holistic vision for our country and his desire to support the common good are qualities needed in the 111th U.S. Congress, 21st Century Democrats is exceedingly proud to give Mike Lumpkin our endorsement.
