Governor
Delaware
Undecided
Jack Markell is committed to leaving the world a better place than he found it.
As state treasurer, Jack instituted some remarkably successful programs to help the people of Delaware. He has saved the taxpayers more than $25 million since 2002 by creating state-of-the-art bulk purchasing policies for Delaware’s state government. He also created a program called “Health Rewards” to improve the health care of state employees while reducing cost. His Delaware Money School, which offers free classes on personal finances, has been called one of the best government-initiated programs in the country. He is proud of his work in promoting the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Delaware College Investment Plan. These innovative programs have made a real difference in people’s lives.
Jack is running for governor because he feels that the people of Delaware deserve more. “I’m not satisfied that our high school graduation rate ranks 40th in the country. I’m not satisfied that we have more than 20,000 uninsured children in the state. I’m not satisfied that we are last in new job creation,” says Jack. He wants to reform Delaware’s health care coverage to give all residents access to health insurance; make Delaware an entrepreneurial hub by forging strong ties between our institutions of higher education and our companies; and make Delaware a leader in renewable energy by pioneering off-shore wind farms.
Jack Markell knows that Delaware needs more than just great ideas; it needs the political will and the political courage to get things done. His record of accomplishments as State Treasurer stands for itself. He is not afraid to take some political risks to make Delaware a better place for this generation and future generations.
Jack entered politics after a successful career in the private sector. Jack helped build a company of 13 people called Fleet Call into the company now known as Nextel (he coined the name “Nextel”). Jack has also been a banker at First Chicago Corporation, a consultant at McKinsey and Company and a senior executive at Comcast Corporation.
Twenty-First Century Democrats is proud to endorse Jack Markell for Governor of Delaware.
