Steve Bullock
2008
Attorney General
Montana
Won Primary
“I believe we have an obligation to one another, to leave our state and our world in a better place than we found it, and to improve opportunities for our children and grandchildren.”
Steve Bullock is committed to protecting the people of Montana and ensuring that their children have every opportunity to reach their full potential. For more than a decade, he has worked to safeguard not only the State’s residents, but also its natural beauty and resources.
As Attorney General, Steve believes “we need decisive, bold leadership to take the system in a different direction.” Bullock will focus on making life better for working people – just as he did in 2006 when he drafted and championed a successful ballot initiative to raise minimum wage for 25,000 Montanans. He plans to put consumers in charge – not companies – and crack down on abuse wherever it is found whether it is found in hospitals, drug companies or internet predators. He believes affordable health care is required for safe and healthy communities, and once elected will aggressively promote universal health care both on the state and national level.
As a father of three, Steve knows the importance of protecting our children. During his time in the Attorney General’s office Steve fought, against overwhelming opposition, for legislation that made it illegal to bring firearms onto school grounds. Further, he is committed to improving Montana’s broken criminal justice system and he will make public safety a top priority. He wants to refocus the system to make treatment and prevention as important as incarceration, and to teach those who have entered the criminal justice system how to be contributing members of the community – not repeat offenders – once they have paid their debt to society.
As a graduate of Montana’s public school system, Steve believes that he has an obligation to give back and use his skills and abilities to better the lives of others. He has a long history of working for the people of Montana, in both the public and private sector. A Helena native, Steve began his public service as Chief Legal Counsel to the Montana Secretary of State, going on to work for four years with Montana’s Department of Justice. While serving in the Attorney General’s office, Steve preserved Montanans’ quality of life by keeping criminals behind bars and protecting public access to streams and rivers, and improved the quality of life by working to strengthen Montana’s laws in the legislature.
Steve isn’t afraid to tackle tough challenges with determination and enthusiasm. He is an exceptional candidate and 21st Century Democrats knows that once elected, Steve will take his energy and experience to the office of Attorney General and make Montana a better place to live, work and learn.
