“When the time comes for me to step away from public service my hope is that people will say I worked to improve the lives and security of working and middle class families.”
Pennsylvania State Representative Rick Taylor is one of several incumbents we have chosen to support in 2008. He represents the 151st District which is in Suburban Philadelphia. Rick beat a long term Republican incumbent to win the seat in 2006 and is on the Republican target list to be defeated this year.
Rick graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1995 and from Cornell University with a Masters of Industrial Labor Relations in 1998. He moved his family to the Philadelphia area after completing his schooling to take an analyst’s job with a consulting firm.
In 2006 he became an elected borough official in Ambler, PA. After that experience he decided to run for the state legislature because the Republican incumbent “exhibited such poor judgment in representing the citizens” that he made the plunge. He ultimately beat the twelve year incumbent by 9%.
Representative Taylor had the opportunity to intern for U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone as a constituent advocate. He counts the Senator as a major influence in shaping his philosophy that serving constituents is the most important aspect of public service.
We are happy to have endorsed Rick Taylor for a second term in the Pennsylvania House and are committed to doing everything we can to help the Democrats expand their hold on this legislative body.
