Washington, DC – Twenty-First Century Democrats congratulates Ted Strickland and his campaign for their victory in Ohio’s gubernatorial race. Strickland was one of 34 candidates endorsed by Twenty-First Century Democrats, the nation’s 13th largest political action committee, during the 2006 election cycle.
“We are proud to have endorsed Ted Strickland this election season,” said Kelly C. Young, president of Twenty-First Century Democrats. “Ted has the extraordinary ability to see the total picture. He is prepared to attack Ohio’s problems directly and collectively, and will not back down until his plan succeeds. We are confident that he will use his visionary leadership abilities to inspire communities during his time in office.”
Throughout this gubernatorial race, Strickland consistently led Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell in the polls. Ted Strickland’s successful campaign for governor against Blackwell is a step forward for the citizens of Ohio. As Ohio’s next governor, Ted plans to enact his TurnAround Ohio plan. He believes that many of the social issues facing America today are extremely interconnected. He strongly feels that these problems must be tackled forcefully and collectively, and he will not back down until his mission has been accomplished.
“We’re glad that Ohioans chose to move forward in quantum leaps by electing a truly extraordinary leader to the governor’s office, and we hope that momentum will carry on through the rest of the elections in the state and in the country tonight,” said Young.
The endorsement of such a small number of candidates nationwide signals a new direction for Twenty-First Century Democrats. “We are bringing the Democratic Party back to the people, and we’re making it a party of movement again,” said Young. “We need strong risk-takers to once again stand up for what they believe in, share their vision with America, and motivate millions of citizens to become active in their communities. Ted Strickland is the type of leader who can generate bold ideas that cross ideological lines, express our values, and solve problems that are facing our world today.”
