AN UPSET FOR DEMOCRATS IN COLORADO’S 4th CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Washington, DC – Twenty-First Century Democrats is disheartened by Angie Paccione’s loss in Colorado’s 4th congressional district. Paccione was one of 34 candidates endorsed by Twenty-First Century Democrats, the nation’s 13th largest political action committee, during the 2006 election cycle.

“We are proud to have supported Angie Paccione this election season,” said Kelly C. Young, president of Twenty-First Century Democrats. “Although Angie did not win today, we know that she will continue to fight for progressive ideals and motivate people to action in her community. Angie has a bright future in politics, and we look forward to working with her again on her next endeavor.”

Although Colorado’s 4th congressional district typically has been a Republican safe seat, Congresswoman Musgrave was considered potentially vulnerable as Paccione was often very close in the polls. Paccione’s race was extremely challenging, but she refused to sacrifice her progressive beliefs just to appeal to the conservative majority in the district.

The endorsement of such a small number of candidates nationwide signals a new direction for Twenty-First Century Democrats. “We are bringing the Democratic Party back to the people, and we’re making it a party of movement again,” said Young. “We need strong risk-takers to once again stand up for what they believe in, share their vision with America, and motivate millions of citizens to become active in their communities. Angie Paccione is the type of leader who can generate bold ideas that cross ideological lines, express our values, and solve problems that are facing our world today.”
