ANDREW RICE ELECTED TO OKLAHOMA’S STATE SENATE

Washington, DC – Reacting to the news that Andrew Rice has defeated Republican Joshua Jantz and has won the 46th district Senate Seat in Oklahoma, Twenty-First Century Democrats called the outcome, “a significant step forward for progressive ideals and values.” During the 2006 election cycle, Twenty-First Century Democrats endorsed 34 candidates, including Rice, all chosen due to their extraordinary leadership abilities

“We are proud to have endorsed Andrew Rice this election season,” said Kelly C. Young, president of Twenty-First Century Democrats. “Andrew strives to affect peoples lives in a positive way. He believes that leaders need to approach problems in a way that is best for the majority, and not in a way that simply serves their own best interest. We are confident that Andrew will successfully enact bold and progressive policy in order to improve the lives of the citizens of Oklahoma.”

This State Senate district is a seemingly moderate area in a traditionally red state, making this race challenging for both Rice and his opponent, Republican Joshua Jantz. Rice’s victory will allow progressive ideals to foster in Oklahoma. As State Senator, Rice plans to bring accountability and integrity back to public service. He also is focused on improving the local economy, public education, and health care for the citizens of his district.

The endorsement of such a small number of candidates nationwide signals a new direction for Twenty-First Century Democrats. “In order to achieve substantive changes in public policy, we need to elect Democrats who will actively support our progressive ideals,” said Young. “Our elected officials need to reach out to America, inspire, and motivate millions of citizens to become involved in their communities. Andrew Rice is the type of leader who can compel the citizens of Oklahoma to become active in our democracy once again.”
