Washington, DC – Twenty-First Century Democrats congratulates Jon Tester and his campaign for their victory in Montana’s US Senate race. Tester was one of 34 candidates endorsed by Twenty-First Century Democrats, the nation’s 13th largest political action committee, during the 2006 election cycle.
“We are proud to have endorsed Jon Tester this election season,” said Kelly C. Young, president of Twenty-First Century Democrats. “Jon has the amazing ability to reach across party lines and build consensus on pivotal issues in order to pass legislation beneficial to the people. Further, he is committed to bringing trust and integrity back to Washington, and supports the interests of the people of Montana.”
This senate race was one of the most contested in the country. However, in the two months prior to the election, Tester led incumbent US Senator Conrad Burns in the polls. Jon Tester’s successful campaign for the senate seat against Burns is a step forward for Montanans. As US Senator, Jon will continue to use his leadership skills, which he developed as Montana State Senate President, in order to enact key legislation in the areas of healthcare, tax credits, and sustainable energy.
“Jon Tester’s victory today is a major part of the sweeping change that spread throughout America in the last two days,” said Young. “Jon will respond to that call for change, and he will be a voice of reason in Washington. We know he will represent all Montanans with the utmost integrity and respect.”
The endorsement of such a small number of candidates nationwide signals a new direction for Twenty-First Century Democrats. “We are bringing the Democratic Party back to the people, and we’re making it a party of movement again,” said Young. “We need strong risk-takers to once again stand up for what they believe in, share their vision with America, and motivate millions of citizens to become active in their communities. Jon Tester is the type of leader who can generate bold ideas that cross ideological lines, express our values, and solve problems that are facing our world today.”
