LOIS MURPHY FALLS TO INCUMBENT IN PENNSYLVANIA’S 6th CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Washington, DC – Twenty-First Century Democrats is disheartened by Lois Murphy’s loss in Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional district. Lois was one of 34 candidates endorsed by Twenty-First Century Democrats, the nation’s 13th largest political action committee, during the 2006 election cycle.

“We are proud to have endorsed Lois Murphy this election season,” said Kelly C. Young, president of Twenty-First Century Democrats. “Although Lois did not win today, we know that she will continue to fight for progressive ideals and motivate people to action in her community. We look forward to working with Lois again in her future endeavors.”

Throughout this extremely competitive race, Murphy and incumbent Jim Gerlach often traded leads in the polls. Lois’s campaign was based on plans to fight for economic growth, fiscal responsibility, affordable health care, and the creation of jobs. Also, Lois promised to be an important piece in restoring trust back in the government by working against corruption and adhering to a strict code of ethics.

The endorsement of such a small number of candidates nationwide signals a new direction for Twenty-First Century Democrats. “In order to achieve substantive changes in public policy, we need to elect Democrats who will actively support our progressive ideals,” said Young. “Our elected officials need to reach out to America, inspire, and motivate millions of citizens to become involved in their communities. Lois Murphy is the type of leader who can compel Pennsylvanians to become active in our democracy once again.”
